A Hanfu Story

Produced at ZOOMIN, Amsterdam, 2017

Film: Human Interest Story: Hanfu in Everyday Life

My role: Director & Producer
Year: 2017
Production Company: ZOOMIN (Amsterdam)

This short documentary follows Zhiluo, a Chinese woman living in Japan who has chosen to incorporate Hanfu (汉服)—one of the oldest traditional styles of clothing in the world—into her everyday life. Through her remarkable collection of Hanfu garments, each reflecting elements of over 5,000 years of Chinese history, Zhiluo brings traditional culture into modern urban spaces. Wherever she goes, her presence becomes a striking and beautiful scene that captures people’s attention and curiosity.

The film explores themes of cultural identity, tradition, and personal expression, showing how historical clothing can become part of contemporary life.

This project was my debut video at Zoomin. After its release, the video quickly went viral on Weibo, was featured in the platform’s “Hot Topic” list of the week, and accumulated more than 10 million views.

As Director and Producer, I was responsible for developing the story, directing the shoot, and overseeing the production of the video.
